Landscape DL Envelope Format
I have been an online postage customer for a number of years whilst representing a number businesses. Prior to "Online Postage", I used "SmartStamp". I found both offerings to be extremely beneficial in the sending of business mail.
I note that online postage is being replaced in 2018 and the only option will be to use Click & Drop.
Whilst Click & Drop seems an excellent option for traders using the eBay and other marketplaces, I rarely buy and sell products and simply use the Royal Mail website for business mail. As a result, purchasing dispatch note labels is of little interest to me. In fact, having reviewed all options under "Click & Drop", there only appears to be the facility for the printing labels in 3 formats- none of which are suitable for business mailing!
The majority of my mail is in the form of DL envelopes so, a 6x4 "portrait" label will not be an acceptable format and will likely end up with Royal Mail refusing the delivery (i.e. it is stated that accepted practice for the addressing of DL envelopes is that they are "landscape" with the address to the left and the stamp to the right hand corner).
My requirements are not sufficiently high to warrant a franking machine. However, I do need a level of accountability in my postage so that I am able to prove to clients that the postage I purchase has been used for their needs. Online Postage offers this accountability and saves a considerable amount of time in having a certificate of posting prepare by Post Office staff for all standard mail. 20 or 30 letters per month would "waste" 40-60 minutes of time in an (already) "overworked" Post Office.
Please could you clarify whether there is any intention of extending "Click & Drop" to cover standard business mail (a simple "DL" template or "small format" label template (I still have over 100 redundant sheets of "SmartStamp" labels) would suffice)? Alternatively, is it your intention to reduce your Online Postage offering to "parcel senders" with the intention of removing the service for standard business mail? If the latter, I had better start "buttering up" the staff at my local Post Office in advance of the removal of Online Postage in March 2018.
I look forward to receiving feedback on this matter and am positive I am not the only business owner who faces the same issues and is concerned about the future of Royal Mail postage.
We are pleased to announce that the functionality to print labels in a landscape orientation for letters is now available in Click & Drop.

I still can't do it! After spending 20 minutes waiting for an answer to my call I have been told the same nonsense. It won't print the right way on a DL.
It's the same with every utility that has been privatised, staff are cut, the shareholder is god and customers can go whistle. Even our very reliable village postman has had his round extended and his time cut!
If it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind.
I totally agree 100% with every word of what Dave has written and I am in exactly the same position. Most of my mail goes out in window DL envelopes and I certainly don't want to have to type out names and address for printing labels for posting sales invoices for various companies every month. It is back to sticking on stamps for me which I can only say makes the post office look like they are going backwards
Would love to be able to use the service, but was expecting I would be able to print a replacement for a postage stamp, or franking label, so I could put it on a DL window envelope. I do not want to print a massive label, complete with address, which is too large to fit on an envelope.
I hate the new click and drop. Printing on business envelopes is a nightmare, i can't seem to use my Dymolabel maker anymore (no options for it when it comes to printing) and when i do manage to print onto an envelope it looks stupid. Bring back the smart stamp. This 'upgrade / improvement' is anything but
Ah.. the Administrator said completed! Disgusting!
The landscape only functions when letter is chosen.
We have a lot of long thin parcels which we would like to print landscape. Why should it only be for letter ?
This is a really awful retrograde move after the old prepay online system. We are a small business and only use DL envelopes so we have gone back to buying stamps and sticking them on, as this Portrait only label looks awful and doesn't fit on DL envelopes. Come into 2018 please Royal Mail. What was wrong with you getting your money upfront instead of paying Paypal?

What paperwork? All we print are labels and a manifest, which is instead of the OBA sheet.
And not sure what your comments have to do with the original question about Landscape DL Envelope Format.
Perhaps you put your comment on the wrong thread?
As a comment on Landscape DL Envelope Format - Just over a week ago they stated they were working on it, so perhaps just let them do it. We all want it but will just have to wait :-)
This whole new system is absolutely the most ridiculously planned and set out debacle of a form. Honestly my 9 year old niece could've set up a more user friendly system. Who the hell have you employed to set this up!!!! Not to mention - who the hell would ever want to print their label with a silly form taking up half the A4 label sheet anyway?...And why so many forms?! Why so much waste of paper!?? This is 2018!!! I can only imagine how stressful it is for people who are not too familiar with computers. After many years of using Royal Mail with my business, I am now looking into taking my business elsewhere. Such a shame.

Once again Royal Mail demonstrates their attitude "You can have what we give you, be satisfied with that!" Yet another reason why the re-nationalisation of Royal Mail begins to look so attractive.
This is so backward, why would you remove this function and even state that click and drop has all of the existing functionality and more!
Completely agree with all of these comments - being able to print directly onto DL & C5 envelopes should have been standard from the start!
I totally agree with the comments above. I have been an on-line customer for many years and this is a really backward step. My once professional looking letters now look awful.

Please ensure that the DL envelope printing also works in portrait mode. Totally agree with all the comments here - Click and Drop is not fit for use. Bring back Online Postage until Click and Drop actually works for all of us!
This is stupid. DL sized envelope is standard. This useless Click and Drop SHOULD never of been launched without this option! I've just had to cut out the label from a sheet of A4, (which if you didn't know Royal Mail, is a standard size of paper!!) and sellotape to a DL sized envelope.
The old online postage was brilliant, this one, useless!!
I am the Technical Manager at Docsaway.com's global hybrid mailing platform website.
We also use the DL labels for signed for mail for our UK printing stations. Do you have any timescale to when we will being able to print labels to DL envelopes again?
It does seem a little strange that a service is replaced missing features that the predecessor had. It also seems a little strange that when you put an order in and select the non-large envelope that get label sizes that are too large, that doesn't make sense to me... perhaps I am missing something?
We love the new import ability which we be taking full advantage of once we can print labels to DL envelopes.
Royal Mail - please don't think that being able to print directly to DL envelopes is something only private individuals require. Many small to medium businesses have a massive requirement for this albeit basic feature. It would be nice when we do get it for the address & the rest of the label to be positioned correctly on the envelope too but please do not forgo giving us anything over this 'minor' detail! More importantly are we going to get a working product before 'Online Postage' is switched off! If not - how about leaving it switched on until it is ready??
Can you please hurry up with the update!! Very Very unprofessional mistake!
Hi. I also do not need label printing but I need the ability to print on a C5 envelope, which is what we had in the last system. I can no longer use this service unfortunately unless more settings are added.
'working on the functionality....'. All you have to do is generate a print for a DL envelope. Thousands of companies do it already. What on earth takes you this long? I am will quite happy do it for you tomorrow free of charge
