The bug that hides.
I will have to describe the scenario, which happens to everyone who uses product lists and weights (nearly every business user of click and drop). It's also a bug that causes weight issues and results in over charging.
Many of you might have missed it.
You have a range of items in Product Lists, these are for:
Pack of pens at weight 40grams
Pack of rubbers at weight 40 grams
Pack of crayons at weight 30 grams.
Say a bunch of customers order all of these, and they appear in your system for you to 'assign postage'. It shows the correct weight based on the SKU codes you use in the PRODUCT database.
You tick them all and apply postage.
You would apply 'Large Letter' and weight at the top of the band '100 grams'. This covers the range of weights under 100grams because they are lots of different ones.
First time around this is fine.
But secretly the little bug AMENDS all your product list for those items to
100grams, so each one of those is now 100grams.
Next time someone orders these items or multiples of them, you'll see a weight that says 100grams. So your paying more for the items postage (if you don't notice the bug).
So they orders a pack of pens and pack of crayons. It'll add up to 200 grams, even though you could have sent these 2 items for 80 grams.
This bug 'where it changes the weight of the items across them all when you assign post, only happens to 'single' ordered items. So if they ordered 2 things and you assign postage of 100grams it does not amend the weight in the Product database.
Has anyone else noticed this?
The short fix:
We have to manually process single items with the EXACT weight to avoid this bug changing all our PRODUCTs weights for the next time we do orders.
This is really tedious and causes many mistakes.
Solution: If someone assigns a weight to an ORDER, it should NOT assign that weight to the PRODUCT list.
I do hope someone can fix this, as it's a real time waster and causes the staff stress.
